Workshop on Integrated Sensing and Communications (ISAC)
Signal processing techniques played a key role in the early work in joint sensing and communication systems, motivated by the competition for a scarce spectrum and the interest on reducing hardware size and cost. However, joint sensing and communication, initially dominated by dual-function radar communications systems, has evolved into a more complex paradigm called integrated sensing and communication (ISAC), where many possible types of interaction between sensing and communication are possible, and other sensors besides radar are considered.
Several seminal ISAC works have already been published in Signal Processing, Communications, Information Theory and Sensor society publications. However, the advent of novel use cases such as autonomous driving, drone-based customer services, radio-frequency identification, and weather monitoring are opening novel avenues for application of ISAC. These use cases involve heterogenous sensors like radars, cameras, GPS to name a few and employed in a distributed setting sensors like radars, cameras, GPS to name a few, are now deployed in dense environments. The scenarios, multiplicity and diversity of sensors, intricate interaction between communications and sensing offer new frontier that come together with novel challenges hitherto not considered.
This workshop aims to bring researchers and practitioners to discuss problems, potential methodologies and first solutions in this rapidly evolving field.
